T-Mobile Reportedly Prepping Its First Palm webOS Smartphone

Both Sprint and Verizon offer smartphones running Palm's webOS, AT&T has promised to release a pair soon, and now there's an unconfirmed report that T-Mobile USA will be joining this group.

This wireless carrier's first webOS-based model will supposedly be similar to the Palm Pixi, a small and light device targeted at people buying their first smartphone. Whether it will be the original Pixi, or a second-generation successor for this model, is not yet known.

This source also apparently didn't know when T-Mobile plans to release this smartphone from Palm.

The webOS is the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. It is a multi-tasking, touch-oriented operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The webOS includes an on-device app store, and a growing collection of third-party software is available.

Although both CDMA-based carriers -- Sprint and Verizon -- have released smartphones running this operating system, neither of the GSM-based carriers have done so.
