Skyfire Accelerates Developing Web Browser for the Android OS

Skyfire has been working on a version of its high-end web browser for Android OS, and to facilitate this process has recently acquired kolbysoft, maker of the Steel browser for Google operating system.

A post on the company's blog says, "Many of our Skyfire fans have been clamoring for when they could get Skyfire for Android. We have been working on it, and with this acquisition, we add resources to speed that effort."

However, the company declined to predict when an Android edition will be released.

Michael Kolb, founder of kolbysoft, will become chief client architect for all editions of Skyfire: Android, Windows mobile, and Symbian.

The developers of Skyfire strive to bring a desktop browsing experience to smartphones, and it supports popular web standards and plug-ins such as the latest versions of Flash 10, Silverlight 2, Ajax, JavaScript and more.

It is available for free, and users of Windows Mobile and Symbian-based smartphones can download it from the Skyfire website.
