T-Mobile myTouch Slide Might Not Debut Until Mid May

Details of T-Mobile's third Android OS-based smartphone with a sliding keyboard and HVGA Touchscreen have been slipping out for some time now, but this model -- which may be called the my Touch Slide -- reportedly won't be introduced for several more months.

Despite the leaks, not all the details on this model are available yet, but its release has been fairly well established for the middle of May, in time for the rush of smartphone sales that generally come during school graduations and Father's Day.

A Preliminary Overview of the T-Mobile my Touch Slide
The original T-Mobile myTouch 3G debuted last year, and has a tablet shape with an HVGA touchscreen. The second model in the series will supposedly go a somewhat different route.

It will reportedly offer the same HVGA (320 by 480 pixel) touchscreen, but add a 4-row QWERTY keyboard that can be hidden behind its display. Next to the screen will be a trackpad.

Both were apparently designed by HTC, despite their different designs.

The next-generation myTouch model will run Google's Android OS.  This means it will have strong ties to this company's online services for email, calendar, navigation, and more.

In top of this its expected to use HTC Sense, this company's alternate user interface that expands on Google's standard one.

Although many details remain unknown about the Slide, it will almost certainly have support for T-Mobile's 3G network, and a camera with LED flash, though the resolution of this is not yet known. In addition, leaked informations says it will include an externally accessible microSD memory card slot and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

The End of an Era
The my Touch Slide will likely be the replacement for the T-Mobile G1, the original Android OS-based smartphone which has been on the market for well over a year now.

Inside source indicate that when this model is introduced, it will mark the end of T-Mobile's Sidekick line. Sales of this consumer-oriented line of smartphones peaked quite some time ago, and this wireless carrier is supposedly going to try to convince users to switch to the Android OS.
