New Details Emerge on Microsoft's Folding, Dual-Screen Tablet

Microsoft apparently continues to work on its Courier project as it develops this e-book reader and digital journal.

According to the latest information to leak out, this device will be smaller and have more in common with Microsoft's other mobile devices than previously thought.

The basic design of the Courier device allegedly hasn't changed: a device with two screens capable of folding like a book.

It will be roughly the size of a 5 x 7 photo, less than an inch thick, and weigh just over a pound.

Previously, it was though the Courier would be based on a full version Windows, but new information leaking out of Microsoft indicates that it will have the same operating system as Windows Phone 7 and the Zune HD, but with a different user interface.

It will come with a web browser, e-mail software, an address book, to-do list and calendar, and will function as a mobile organizer.

In addition, it will reportedly ship with e-book software, a acting as an eReader will be one of its major functions. An e-book store will be included on the device.

According to several videos of this device that have appeared on the Web, text will be entered by handwriting with a stylus.

It will apparently have a built-in camera and headphone jack, so some-form of multimedia playback seems likely.

Coming this Year?
According to unconfirmed reports, the First Microsoft Courier model will be released in the second half of this year.

There is no word yet on pricing.
