Swype Text Entry System Now Available for Download to Android OS Phones

Swype is a system for entering text on small touchscreens by sliding a finger for letter to letter. It's built into several devices, but Android OS users who would like to try it can install a stand-alone version now.

To enter a word, the user moves their finger from letter to letter in one continuous motion. An example of the gesture used to enter the word "quick" is at left.

Its developer claims Swype is faster and easier than other data input methods, and that over entering 30 words per minute is possible.

It is already built into the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and Samsung Omnia II, and it will also be included with the upcoming HTC HD2 from T-Mobile.

Join the Beta
A beta program now gives a limited number of participants an opportunity to try out this app. All that is required is a smartphone running Google's Android OS.
