T-Mobile has introduced the Motorola Cliq XT, its fifth device running Google's Android OS. This inexpensive touchscreen-based device has been created for those looking for their first smartphone.
The Cliq XT has a strong focus on consumers, allowing users to easily keep up with a variety of social networking services while on the go. However, it also gives users access to Microsoft Exchange Servers for business email.
It has a low price, but not quite as low as had been thought at one point. It is selling for $130 with a two-year contract, or $330 without a contract.
This Motorola model can be purchased now on T-Mobile's website.
An Overview of Motorola Cliq XT
Like the Motorola Cliq that T-Mobile introduced last year, this latest model has a 3.1-inch HVGA (320 by 240 pixel) touchscreen, but this one uses a tablet shape without its predecessor's hardware keyboard. Below the screen is a large touchpad surrounded by the Home, Search, Menu, and Back buttons.
This is an Android OS 1.5-based smartphone, and therefore comes with the standard suite of software for connecting to Google services, like Gmail and YouTube. User can also pick from over 20,000 third-party apps.
In addition, the Cliq XT includes MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from a range of social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter, text messages, as well as consumer and business e-mail accounts, into a universal inbox.
Although it isn't running the latest versions of Google's operating system, Motorola has added some of latest features into this model, like pinch-to-zoom support. It also includes Adobe Flash Lite and Swype, a system designed to make it easier for users to enter text on the touchscreen.
Naturally, the Cliq XT supports T-Mobile's 3G mobile broadband service, as well as Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth, and aGPS.
Dual microphones and noise cancellation technology will help make phone calls clearer.
This Motorola model also includes a 5.0 megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash, a microSD memory card slot, and a 1,420 mAh battery.
