Motorola Devour Now Available Directly from Verizon

Verizon Wireless launched its third Android OS-based smartphone a few weeks ago, but at launch it was available only in Best Buys stores and a few other online retailers. As of today, it can now be found in Verizon's stores and its website, too.

This is a mid-range model with a sliding keyboard, Wi-Fi, and 3G mobile broadband.

The Devour is selling for $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new or renewed two-year customer agreement on Verizon's website.

An Overview of the Motorola Devour
The Devour is a slider, with a 3.1-inch, HVGA (320 by 480 pixel) capacitive Touchscreen that can slide aside to reveal a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard. Next to the display is a trackpad.

This model is debuting with Android OS 1.6, and has the standard suite of software for connecting to Google services, like Gmail and YouTube. User can also pick from over 30,000 third-party apps.

In addition, the Devour is the first Verizon model with MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from a range of social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter, text messages, as well as consumer and business e-mail accounts, into a universal inbox.

Naturally, it comes with software for playing music and video, and this model is being bundled with an 8 GB microSD memory card for storing thousands of files.

This phone is able to access Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A mobile broad-band network, and also sports Wi-Fi b/g and Stereo Bluetooth. Other features include a 3.0 MPx camera and a GPS receiver.

The Motorola Devour is Verizon's third smartphone running Google's operating system. The other two debuted late last year: the Motorola Droid and the Motorola Droid Eris.
