Skype for Android and BlackBerry Now Available to Verizon Customers

A mobile version of Skype is now available for a number of Verizon Wireless smartphones. This allows users to make phone calls with their unlimited data plans, rather than voice minutes.

The Skype app let users make unlimited calls to other Skype users around the world, as these calls will not be subtracted from the customer's monthly allotment of voice minutes.

This app also allow users to exchange instant messages with other Skype users.

Calls can not be made over Wi-Fi, and there is no support for making video calls, but none of Verizon's models have a front-facing video camera anyway.

Calling Landlines
Calls made from Skype to regular telephones still uses the customer's voice minutes.

Skype can also be used to make inexpensive international calls.

Models Supported
Initially, Verizon's version of Skype mobile is available for a collection of smartphones with 3G, and whose users have an "all you can eat" data plan, which costs $30 per month.

Models supported include the BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition, and Tour 9630 , as well as the Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris, and Motorola Devour.
