StyleTap's Palm OS Emulator Released for Jailbroken iPhones

The long-delayed version of StyleTap for the iPhone has finally been released. This emulator allows over 30,000 applications originally written for Palm OS to run on iPhone and iPod touch units that have been jailbroken.

Apple's rules for third-party applications specifically prohibit emulators, as these will allow users to install and run applications that Apple hasn't approved. StyleTap spent two years trying to get Apple to change its mind, without success.

"Naturally, we would prefer to be able to offer this product through the App Store, but unfortunately this is not currently possible due to Apple's restrictive policies, and instead this version of StyleTap will run on jailbroken devices," said Gregory Sokoloff, CEO of StyleTap.

Palm Apps on Your iPhone
StyleTap is not a simulator, so it doesn't create a virtual Palm on an iPhone. But it does allow third-party applications written for the Palm OS to run on Apple's smartphone and handheld.

This app supports standard features that include TCP/IP networking, audio recording and playback, the ability to use the multi-gigabyte storage as a virtual memory card, and cut/copy/paste of text between native and Palm OS applications.  It also gives Palm OS applications access to the iPhone's GPS.
