Samsung Gives Sneak Peek at Upcoming bada OS-Based Smartphones

The Samsung Wave will be the first model running Samsung's bada OS, but will soon be followed by many more. They haven't been announced yet, but Samsung has offered a first glimpse.

During a recent bada Developer Day in Russia, a PowerPoint slide showed the Wave, along with four additional models. Few details were available, so what's currently known can be determined from the slide.

Two of the future devices will have landscape-oriented sliding keyboards, while the other two will use tablet shapes. They all appear to be roughly the size of the Wave.

An important detail revealed by the slide is pricing. According to Samsung, the upcoming models will be less expensive than the Slider, and come in at under 20,000 rubles ($685) and some near or below 10,000 rubles ($340). The prices are without carrier subsidies.

The company did not give details on when these models will be on the market.

The bada OS was created by Samsung. It can be thought of as Samsung's TouchWiz User Interface made into an operating system and can run widgets created for other TouchWiz devices.

It has a consumer focus, was designed to be run on inexpensive devices and will likely compete with Google's Android OS.
