Almost 40% of BlackBerry users indicated they would choose an iPhone if they could dump their current device, and 34% would choose an Android OS smartphone, according to recent numbers from Crowd Science.
"These results show that the restlessness of BlackBerry users with their current brand hasn't just been driven by the allure of iPhone," said Crowd Science CEO John Martin. "Rather, BlackBerry as a brand just isn't garnering the loyalty seen with other mobile operating systems."
The survey, which queried 1,140 smartphone users, also found that iPhone and Android OS-powered device owners are fiercely loyal, with 92% and 87%, respectively, claiming they would stick with their current brand. Almost all - 97% of iPhone users and 100% of Android users - would recommend their device to others. A majority of BlackBerry users, 52%, would also recommend the iPhone.
In terms of use, BlackBerry led as a dedicated work device with 7% of respondents claiming they use it for business only, compared to 1% of iPhone users and a statistically insignificant number of Android users.
Across all smartphone platforms, users downloaded more free apps in the past seven days than paid apps, with iPhone users more likely to pay for apps and Android users flocking to free ones.
Android users were also found to be younger and less affluent than iPhone and BlackBerry owners.
