Developers Releasing Android OS Apps at a Breakneck Pace

Consumer interest in Google's Android OS has been growing tremendously in recent months, and third-party software developers are attempting to capitalize on the smartphone platform's success.

As a result, the number of apps in the Android Market has been rapidly increasing, and according to statistics released from AndroLib.com, around 40,000 apps are currently available.

About 9,300 apps were introduced last month alone.

Although Android OS's number still lags behind the roughly 150,000 third-party apps available for the Apple iPhone OS, there's no doubt users of smartphones that run Google's operating system already have many software choices.

The Android Market service, which is hosted by Google, is available directly on Android smartphones.

It is intended to give developers an open environment to make their content available, whether they want to sell or give it away.

Google is following YouTube's model by allowing developers to post content in the Android marketplace in three steps: register, upload and describe the content, and publish it.
