Vonage VoIP App Released for Android OS Smartphones on AT&T and T-Mobile

A version of Vonage Mobile has been released for smartphones that run Google's Android OS and have service through AT&T or T-Mobile. This allows users to make phone calls over a Wi-Fi connection and not use their voice minutes.

This service offers outbound international calling over Wi-Fi and cellular networks as well as domestic calls over Wi-Fi. Calls within the U.S. are free, but this service charges for calling outside of the country, and international calls made over a cellular connection use voice minutes as well.

The Vonage World Mobile plan includes unlimited international calls to over 60 countries for $24.99 a month.

When traveling outside of the U.S., this service can be used to make free calls over Wi-Fi.

The Vonage app allows users to dial directly or dial through the smartphone's contacts list. When the app is open, it recognizes that an international call is being made and automatically routes it through the Vonage network.

It's not clear why this service isn't also coming to Sprint's Android-based devices. It is unlikely to be released for Verizon, who has an exclusive agreement with Skype, a rival service.

Availability 
AT&T and T-Mobile customers can download the Vonage Mobile app for the Android OS for free from this company's website or via the on-device Android Market .

There are also versions for the iPhone, iPod touch, and BlackBerry.
