After months of rumors, leaks, and speculation, Verizon Wireless has officially announced the HTC Droid Incredible, an upcoming smartphone running Google's Android OS and offering a range of high-end features.
It will have a tablet shape designed around a 3.7-inch WVGA (480 x 800) AMOLED touchscreen, giving it one of the better displays available. Below this will be an optical joystick.
The Droid Incredible is going run Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. HTC's Sense user interface will be layered on top. Sense extends Google's standard UI with additional features, rather than replacing it.
Thanks to Android OS, it's going to include a highly-capable web browser. Users can synchronize their email, calendar and address book with Google services or a Microsoft Exchange Server.
In addition, the Droid Incredible is going to come with music and video players, and support for Flickr to share and view photos.
The Android Market offers more than 30,000 third-party applications in categories ranging from games to productivity.
Other High-End Hardware
The HTC model is going be Verizon's first with an 8 megapixel camera that will offer auto-focus and dual LED flash.
It is going to have 8 GB of internal storage, a microSD memory card slot, a GPS receiver, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and support Verizon's 3G mobile broadband network .
Overall, the Droid Incredible will be 4.6 x 2.3 x 0.5 inches and weigh 4.6 ounces.
Pricing and Availability
Verizon Wireless is going to launch the high-end smartphone on April 29.
The HTC Droid Incredible will cost $200 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.
Customers will need to subscribe to both a voice and data plan. Nationwide Talk plans start at $39.99 a month, while Email and Web for Smartphone plans start at $29.99 for unlimited monthly access.
