Motorola Devour Gets System Software Update

Verizon launched the Motorola Devour last month and has already introduced an update for the system software. It's not a major upgrade, but it makes many improvements to the Android OS-based smartphone.

According to the official description, the most significant changes in firmware 1.15.08P are:

• Improved response time when Menu, Home and Back keys are pressed.
• Stability improvements to the web browser, contacts and V CAST Music with Rhapsody applications.
• Multiple enhancements to incoming call performance.
• Fixed Exchange ActiveSync Calendar agenda view to display meeting titles.
• Overall improvements to ringer, voice dialing application and multimedia audio when using a headset.

In addition, the update brings slightly newer versions of the Google applications that are bundled with the smartphone.

Update Going Out Now
Verizon is sending the new version of the Motorola Devour's system software out over the next few days. When it arrives on each device it will be automatically downloaded and the user will be asked to install it.

Devour users who don't want to wait have the option to manually download it. To do so, go to Menu > Settings > About phone > System update and then follow the screen prompts.

An Overview of the Motorola Devour
The Devour is a slider, with a 3.1-inch, HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) capacitive Touchscreen that slides to reveal a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard.

The model debuted with Android OS 1.6, and there is no word yet on an upgrade to a newer version. In addition to the standard suite of Google applications, it comes with MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from a range of social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter, text messages, as well as consumer and business email accounts, into a single inbox.

The Devour is able to access Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A mobile broadband network, and also sports Wi-Fi b/g and Stereo Bluetooth. Other features include a 3.0 MPx camera and a GPS receiver.
