LG Ally Could Be Verizon's Next Android OS-based Smartphone

Unconfirmed reports of the LG Aloha have been surfacing for weeks now, but a leak coming out today says that when this Android OS smart hone is released by Verizon Wireless next month, it will be called the LG Ally.

This information supposedly comes from LG itself, and is accompanied by a small image of the device.

The Ally is expected to be a modified version of the SU2300, which LG said this week will be released in its home country in May.

If this is true, this smartphone will have a 3.5-inch WVGA (800x480) AMOLED Touchscreen and a landscape-oriented keyboard. It will also have a 5 megapixel camera with support for recording high definition (720p) video, 3G, Wi-Fi and a GPS receiver.

The LG Ally will reportedly run Google Android 2.1 on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but use a slightly modified version of Google's standard user interface.

Coming to Verizon?
A few weeks ago, word leaked out that the LG VS740 had appeared in Verizon Wireless' product database, along with a mention that it is a Google device. It's possible this is a reference to the Aloha/Ally.

Several inside sources have said that this carrier will introduce this model -- whatever it ends up being called -- in May.
