A version of Microsoft Communicator has been released that is compatible with some of Nokia's E-series smartphones.
This enterprise app lets users see their co-workers availability, and click to communicate with them using a variety of methods: IM, email, text or phone call.
The names and status of colleagues are embedded directly into the devices' address book, enabling people to update their own presence, start and join instant messaging sessions, and begin calls directly from the contact card.
This software was developed as part of an ongoing collaboration between Nokia and Microsoft, and it adds to the work Nokia is already doing in optimizing direct access to email and other personal information with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
Availability
Microsoft Communicator Mobile is initially available for the Nokia E72 and Nokia E52. Users of these devices can download the English version today from the Ovi Store.
The companies plan to have this app pre-installed on select Nokia smartphones in the future, and plan to support additional devices, including the recently announced Nokia E5.
