Language translation has been added to Google Goggles. This free software now allows users to take a picture of text written in one language and have it translated into another.
Goggles is an app for Android OS-based smartphones that lets users search for more information on an object they see in front of them simply by taking a picture of it. It can give more details on items ranging from books to famous monuments.
The latest version can take an image of text in Spanish, French, Italian, or German and translate to English or many other languages. It can also convert text written in English to other languages.
Google's near-term plan plan is to add more Latin-based languages, and to eventually add support for Chinese, Hindi and Arabic.
Availability
Google Goggles v1.1 is available for smartphones running Android 1.6 and higher.
It is free and can be found in the on-device Android Market.
