The Palm Pre Plus, which has previously been available only from Verizon, will debut from AT&T Wireless soon. It's an updated version of the original Palm Pre, which launched on the Sprint network last year. The latest model includes 16 GB of memory, Wi-Fi, and the innovative Palm webOS packed into a sleek design.
It comes with the Touchstone charging back already installed on the phone, and for a limited time, you'll also get a Touchstone charging dock. The Palm Pre Plus will launch tomorrow for $150 with a new two-year activation.
DESIGN & BUILD
The Palm Pre Plus is a lovely little phone; modern and sleek with a rounded pebble shape. There are no visible buttons or controls to mar its elegant design.
The phone feels very good in my hand; solid, but not too heavy, with rounded corners. It fits nicely in my pocket, and the bulge isn't too noticeable. The Pre Plus is a little thicker than most of the phones I've tested, but since it's also smaller, it isn't a problem for me.
The 3.1-inch display has a resolution of 480 x 320 and is simply gorgeous. Colors are rich and vibrant, text is sharp and easy to read, and I really enjoy everything from looking at photos to surfing the web - no squinting required.
Unlike many of its competitors, the screen is bright enough that the device is actually usable in bright sunlight, which is quite welcome.
The keyboard is exposed by pushing up on the bottom edge of the screen. The keyboard portion of the phone is rather small, but the keys are as large as possible.
The keys are fairly tight, not "squishy", and the feel was pleasant. I did make quite a few mistakes at the beginning of my testing, though with some practice I was able to get fairly accurate and minimize typos.
The Power and Silent switch are on the top right corner of the device, and the volume keys are on the right side, but they are black like the rest of the casing so they don't really stand out.
The charging port is on the right side, and protected by a pullout cover.
