HTC Wildfire To Target Budget-Conscious Smartphone Buyers

The newly-announced HTC Wildfire is going to be an entry-level Android OS smartphone with a focus on social networking.

The Wildfire will essentially be a scaled-down version of the HTC Bravo, a model that's sold in the U.S. as the  HTC Droid Incredible and the Google nexus One. The major change will be a smaller, lower resolution display; it will have a 3.2-inch, QVGA touchscreen instead of the 3.7 inches and WVGA one on its more expensive sister models. It will also have a slower processor: 528 MHz.

This smartphone will run Google's Android OS with the HTC Sense user interface, which extends Google's standard UI with additional features, rather than replacing it. Android already includes social networking software, and Sense adds FriendStream, which aggregates Twitter, Facebook and Flickr updates

The HTC Wildfire is going to offer 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. In addition, it will have a 5 megapixel camera with flash, a standard 3.5 mm headset jack, and a 1,200 mAh battery.

Availability
HTC says says the smartphone is going to be available in major European and Asian markets in the third quarter of this year.

So far, there has been no word of a release in the United States.
