Twitter is now offering an official app for iPhone users. It offers all the standard features of the social networking service for free.
The app wasn't developed in-house; previusly, the app was called Tweetie and sold for $2.99.
The new version, in addition to being renamed "Twitter", has been upgraded with new search features. It also now allows users to sign up for this service.
In addition to enabling users to send and receieve tweets, the iPhone app supports follow, unfollow, block, direct messages etc. It lets users post photos and videos, can handle multiple accounts, and has an offline mode,
Loren Brichter, the developer of Tweetie, has been hired by Twitter and will continue his work on this software.
Availability
Twitter can now be found on the on-device Apple App Store.
It runs on the iPhone and iPod touch. A version for the Apple iPad is in development.
