Samsung Wave with Super AM-OLED Display, New bada OS Now Available

The Samsung Wave has just been released in Europe. This is the first phone with a new type of AM-OLED display created by Samsung, and it is also the first with the bada OS.

Samsung's new operating system was developed for consumer-oriented smartphones with touchscreens. The company is emphasizing bada's openness to third-party development, including games, navigation, social networking, e-book, health and lifestyle applications.

It comes with an app called Social Hub, which has been designed to integrate all major e-mail, instant messaging, and social networking services. It provides users integrated messaging, managing contacts, and viewing calendar events. As Social Hub is powered by the push technology, e-mail messages, calendar events, and SNS updates are delivered in real-time.

The feature that sets Samsung's latest smartphone apart from the crowd is its display, which Samsung describes as a Super AM-OLED. This 3.3-inch, WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) capacitive Touchscreen offers mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) technology, which is incorporated to Samsung’s LCD TV and LED TV products, and its developer promises it is much brighter, clearer, and less reflective.

The Wave is based on a 1 GHz processor, which offers users the best graphic performance available on a smartphone today. Customers will have a choice between 2 GB and 8 GB of storage, plus a microSD memory card slot.

It sports a 5.0 Megapixel camera with an LED flash and face/blink detection. This is capable of 720p high definition video recording. Other multimedia capabilities include support for playing video in DivX Xvid, MP4, and WMV, and support for virtual 5.1 surround.

This Samsung model offers GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and the 3G standards WCDMA/HSPA (900/2100 MHz). It also has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.

Other features include a GPS receiver and a 1,500 mAh battery.

Availability
The Samsung Wave is debuting today in Germany, France and the UK. It will be released later in Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America.

So far, there has been no word of a release in the U.S.
