Texting Not the Only Dangerous Habit Drivers Have, Survey Finds

A survey conducted by Lindberg International found that 28% of respondents have texted while driving and 12% have read or written emails. However more individuals, 32%, currently use a hands-free device like a Bluetooth headset.

As for other dangerous driving activities, the survey found that 72% of drivers have eaten while operating a vehicle and 35% have changed clothes.

Road rage is common across all countries, with 63% of respondents claiming they have experienced it, especially in France where it was most common. And drivers aged 18-35 are most likely to engage in distracted driving, and are also the group least likely to think it dangerous.

A smaller number of respondents, 15%, claimed to have performed a sexual act while driving. In addition 13% applied makeup, 10% have read newspapers or magazines, 5% have played video games and 5% have shaved.

Japanese respondents reported the highest instances of grooming while driving and engaging with electronic devices.

The survey was based on 1,800 online respondents in six countries in North America, Europe and Asia and was underwritten by Jabra, a headset manufacturer.
