Android OS-based Acer Stream Might Be Headed for AT&T

Acer has taken the wraps off its latest smartphone running Google's Android OS.  The Acer Stream is going to have a fairly high-end feature set and a strong focus on multimedia. It might be released by AT&T.

The smartphone will have a 3.7-inch, WVGA, AMOLED Touchscreen in a tablet shape that 11.2 mm thick.

Below its display will a collection of media control buttons. And that's just the start of its multimedia features -- the Stream is going to have an HDMI port for high-definition video out. It will even have UPnP and DLNA for sharing media files with other devices.

In addition, the Streams 5 MPx camera will be able to record 720p video.

Android OS and More
The Acer Stream will run Google's Android OS 2.1, but with a proprietary 3D user interface created by Acer.

It is going to be based on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and have 512 MB of RAM.

This smartphone will come with 2 GB of internal storage and be bundled with a 8 GB removable microSD memory card. This can be switched out with an optional 32 GB of additional storage.

The Stream is going to be a GSM phone with HSDPA (7.2 Mbps). It will also have WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, and GPS receiver.

Availability?
Although Acer has officially announced this model, it has not said when or where the Acer Stream will be released.

However, a few days ago the FCC approved a version of this smartphone with support for AT&T's voice and 3G network, indicating that the carrier might be planning to offer the product.

Pricing for the Stream is not yet known.
