LG Ally Android Phone Now Available from Verizon

Verizon Wireless has just launched the LG Ally, a mid-range smartphone with Google's Android OS.

The mid-range device will feature a sliding keyboard, WVGA screen, 4 GB of storage, and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The Ally is selling for $100 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a new or renewed two-year agreement.

It is available now on verizonwireless.com and in the carrier's stores.

The smartphone is a slider, a 3.2-inch WVGA (800 x 480) Touchscreen and a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard.

The LG Ally runs Google Android OS 2.1 on a 600 MHz processor. It has 256 MB of RAM, plus it is being bundled with a 4 GB microSD memory card

LG has created a slightly modified version of Google's standard user interface for this model (see here), which includes some additional widgets, including one that displays Facebook and Twitter feeds.

The smartphone comes with the standard suite of Android software, including a WebKit-based browser, Gmail, YouTube and Google Maps, among other features. It also offer Exchange ActiveSync.

Naturally, the LG Ally supports Verizon's voice and 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) data networks. In addition, the device includes Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS.

It has a a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, and software for making basic image edits.

Overall, it is 4.6 x 2.2 x 0.6 inches, and weighs 5.6 ounces.
