Android OS Version of SlingPlayer Streaming TV App Nearing Release

An app that will let Android OS users watch programs streamed from their home TV will be available soon.

SlingPlayer Mobile allows users to watch whatever is playing on their TV at home, including DVDs or DVR content.

There are already versions for Apple's iPhone OS, Symbian, and other platforms, and SlingMedia has promised that support for Google's Android OS is coming in the near future.

Those who would like to sign up to be notified when this version is available can do so on the SlingMedia website.

With a Slingbox and SlingPlayer Mobile, smartphone and handheld users can watch and control their home TV and associated equipment without paying a monthly subscription fee.

There are no subscription fees, but the app requires a Slingbox to operate. These start at $180, and can also be used to watch streaming TV from a Windows PC or Mac.

The iPhone and iPod touch version of this app costs $29.99, and it is likely the Android OS version will cost the same.

In addition to the iPhone OS edition, there are other mobile versions of this software: BlackBerry, Palm OS, Symbian S60, and Windows Mobile.
