Images of an Android OS-based Smartphone Headed for AT&T Leak Out

Several images and details of an upcoming smartphone have leaked out of AT&T. This model will supposedly run Google's Android OS and won't be much bigger than a business card.

The pictures show a device with a tablet shape and no hardware keyboard. The source describes this model as being the smallest Android OS phone they have seen, and a business card in several of the images gives some prospective.

Its exact screen size is unknown, but it's likely to be close to 2.8-inches. At this point, there's no word on screen resolution.

According to the source for the images, this model will run Android OS 2.1 with the HTC Sense user interface layered on top.

The smartphone will reportedly have a 5 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm headset jack, and an optical trackpad below its touchscreen.

Is this the HTC Aria?
AT&T has committed to offering an HTC model running Google's Android OS in the near future, but no details on this smartphone have been made officially available.

Unconfirmed reports of a device called the HTC Aria headed for AT&T surfaced recently, and the images of the small tablet-shaped model that came to light today might be of the Aria.

On the other hand, last month the FCC approved an HTC model with support for AT&T's wireless network. This will include a sliding keyboard so it is a distinctly different device from the one in the new pictures. It is another candidate to be named the HTC Aria.

Whatever their names end up being, at least one of these models is allegedly going to be announced next Monday, June 7.
