Apple iPhone 4 Headed for Best Buy and Radio Shack

When the iPhone 4 debuts later this month, it is reportedly going to be available in Best Buy and Radio Stack stores, in addition to AT&T's and Apple's own retail locations.

This will give customers more options to try out this smartphone before buying it, especially in areas without AT&T or Apple stores. It should also help reduce crowding, as sales of this model are likely to be heavy -- over a million iPhone 3GS units were sold the weekend it debuted.

Apple closely controls the cost of its smartphones, and in the past has never allowed retailers to charge less than the standard price. The iPhone 4 is unlikely to be an exception. 

Of course, consumers will also have the option of ordering the iPhone 4 online from AT&T's website, where pre-orders will begin June 15.

Overview of the Apple iPhone 4
Apple's fourth-generation smartphone is going to be a significant upgrade from the current one, starting with its 3.5-inch, 640 x 960 touchscreen, a much higher resolution than any previous iPhone has offered.

It's going to have a new slimmer design and run iOS 4.0, the latest version of Apple's operating system, on a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor. This will be the first version of Apple's mobile OS with support for multitasking.

The iPhone 4 will have a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with a flash and support for recording 720p video at 30 frames per second. In addition, it's going to include a small front-facing camera for video chatting with an app called FaceTime.

Not everything is being improved: Apple's upcoming smartphone will have the same amount of storage capacity as the current one.

Pricing and Availability
The Apple iPhone 4 will be available on June 24. The only wireless carrier in the U.S. that will be allowed to offer it is AT&T.

It is going to come in two configurations: a version with 16 GB of storage will cost $200 and one with 32 GB will go for $300.
