Motorola Prepping a 2 GHz Android OS Smartphone

UPDATE: When he made this announcement, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha was confised. He meant to say that his company is working on an Android OS smartphone with a dual-core processor, not a 2 GHz one.

Motorola's CEO says that his company is working on a smartphone that will run Google's Android OS on a 2 GHz processor, twice as fast as any model available today.

Sanjay Jha was speaking to the Executives Club of Chicago yesterday when he made this promise. He didn't give any additional details on this model, but a second Motorola executive was willing to reveal that it will have an array of high-end features.

In addition to its very high speed processor, the smartphone will include hardware-accelerated support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1. Google has integrated this player into Android OS 2.2.

This Motorola model will also include an HD video-out port with 720p, and a camera with greater than 5 megapixel resolution.

It is not known yet exactly what the size and resolution of the screen will be, and the general design of this device also has not been revealed.

Google is scheduled to release the next version of the Android OS this fall, and Motorola's model is likely to debut running it. 

Coming this Year
Sanjay Jha made it clear in his speech today that his company will release its 2 GHz Android model before the end of 2010.

He did not, however, say anything about which carriers will be offering it.

Motorola + Android OS
Motorola has put much of its recent efforts into making Android OS-based smartphones, and its and Verizon have been very successful with the Motorola Droid.

This partnership is reportedly continuing, and the pair is expected to release two more high-end models running Google operating system, the Motorola Droid 2 and Motorola Droid Shadow.
