Nokia X5 Music- and Messaging-Oriented Smartphone Unveiled

Nokia has just taken the wraps off the Nokia X5, an upcoming model with a portrait-oriented sliding keyboard for easier texting. But it won't stop there: this smartphone will also have an emphasis on playing music.

It will have landscape-oriented, 2.4-inch, 320x240 (QVGA) display as well as a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard.

Like many of Nokia's smartphones, the X5 will use the Symbian OS with S60 3rd Edition, which means it won't include a touchscreen. It will come with a suite of communication and entertainment software, allowing users to send texts, status updates, and emails, as well as listen to music.

Users will be able to control the device in unusual ways: spinning it will jump the music player to a random track, while shaking it will display the number of unread messages.

A 2 GB microSD card is going to be included for storing music and other files, and users will have the option of switching this out for higher-capacity cards up to 32 GB. 

Nokia is promising that the X5 will be able to play music for 24 hours on a single charge.

This GSM phone is going to offer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. It is also going to include a 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash and an FT tuner.

Pricing and Availability
This Nokia smartphone is going to launch in Asia in the third quarter of this year where it will sell for around $200 (165 EUR).

There is no word yet on when this smartphone will be released in other parts of the world.

It will come in a range of casing colors: yellow, green, purple, pink, blue, and black.
