Sprint's Android OS-powered Samsung Galaxy S Pro To Have WiMAX

Sprint is reportedly going to release a version of the Samsung Galaxy S with a sliding keyboard and the 4G standard WiMAX. Several images of this Android OS-based smartphone have leaked out ahead of a formal announcement.

But the Galaxy S Pro will have a feature not on the current one: a 5-row, landscape-oriented, sliding QWERTY keyboard.

This will apparently be Sprint's second smartphone with WiMAX, giving it peak download speeds of up to 12 Mbps, and average download speeds of 2-4 Mbps in areas where this 4G standard is available.

It will debut with Google's Android 2.1 and have Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 user interface layered on top.

Like its sister model, this device is expected to have a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, as well as a microSD memory card slot.

The Galaxy S Pro will reportedly have a small front-facing camera for video conferencing as well as a 5 megapixel rear-facing one with an LED flash.

All other details, such as screen size and resolution, currently remain unknown.

There is also no word yet on when Sprint plans to introduce this Samsung smartphone, or what it will cost.
