Android OS-based HTC Desire Headed to the U.S.

A high-end smartphone that has until now only been available in Europe and Asia will be released in the United States later this summer.

The HTC Desire runs Google's Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz pricessor and sports a 3.7-inch touchscreen.

HTC said today that the model is going to be offered by "select regional operators". This means it is coming to smaller carriers such as MetroPCS or U.S. Cellular. Exactly which carriers was not announced.

This model will launch in the U.S. in August, and pricing will be up to the carrier..

Overview of the HTC Desire
This model may seem familiar to many Americans, as it is a version of a device already being sold as the HTC Droid Incredible and Google Nexus One.

Like its sister models, the Desire has a tablet shape dominated by a 3.7-inch, 800 x 480 (WVGA) AMOLED display.

It is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and sports 512 MB RAM and a microSD memory card slot.

The smartphone uses HTC Sense, this company's alternate user interface which overlays and extends Google's stndard one. 

It also includes 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, compass, and an array of other features.
