Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 To Be a Mid-Range Android OS Smartphone

Sony Ericsson has taken the wraps off the Xperia X8, its latest Android OS-based model. This consumer-oriented smartphone will target consumers looking for a mid-range device, as it will have a 3-inch, HVGA Touchscreen and a 600 MHz processor.

This model might debut running an older version of Google's operating system, Android OS 1.6. However, the company says an upgrade to version 2.1 is coming soon, and the device might launch running it. Still, users might not be able to tell, as it will use Sony Ericsson's "four-corners" user interface.

The Xperia X8 is going come with its developer's Timescape app, which manages many types of communication: such as calls, SMS text messages, emails, and Facebook and Twitter.

Sony Ericsson is emphasizing the multimedia capabilities of this smartphone, including a video and audio player and a YouTube app.

The Xperia X8 will come in versions that support either N. America's GSM/HSPA networks, or the rest of the world's. It will also have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.

Other features will include a 3.2 megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot, and 3.5 mm headset jack.

Availability
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is expected to debut at some point in the third quarter of this year.
