Kindle App for Android OS Now Available

Amazon.com has released a version of Kindle for Google's Android OS. The free application gives customers access to e-books from the online retailer's collection, bringing many of the features of the Kindle e-reader to Android OS-based smartphones.

It has been designed to work with the dedicated Kindle e-reader, automatically synchronizing the user's books and bookmarks so they always have their reading material with them and can pick up reading where they left off, no matter which device they are using.

Unlike the Kindle e-reader, which has a monochrome display, the Android OS version will let users read books in full color, including children’s books, cookbooks, travel books, textbooks and graphic novels.

The first version of the Android OS app doesn't support purchasing e-books on the smartphone, but Amazon promises this will be added soon.

When this feature is available, this app is going to let users choose among 540,000 books, including 96 of 110 from The New York Times Best-Sellers List.  

Availability
The Kindle app is now available in the on-device Android Market.

There is also a version of the app for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad as well as smartphones running the BlackBerry OS.
