System Software Update for HTC EVO 4G Causes Problems, Gets Pulled

A small update for the system software on the HTC EVO 4G that was released yesterday has been withdrawn after some users reported problems.

Neither Sprint nor HTC has announced exactly what changes are included in version 1.47.651.1 of this smartphone's software, so it is apparently just a bug fix update.

However, shortly after users began installing it yesterday, reports started to come in of problems, some severe enough to "brick" devices.

According to a statement from Sprint:

While the vast majority of consumers successfully downloaded and installed the most recent HTC evo 4G software update, we have received a handful of reports from customers having some issues with the update. In light of this, HTC and Sprint have decided to temporarily halt distribution of this software release until we can investigate further. We expect to be able to resume software updates shortly.

Overview of the HTC evo 4G
The HTC Evo 4G is the first smartphone available in the U.S. with WiMAX. This very high-end model also a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a slim tablet shape, and 1 GHz Snapdragon processor.

It runs Google's Android OS, and has HTC Sense, this company's alternate user interface that expands on Google's standard one.

It is available exclusively from Sprint.
