Samsung Vibrant To Be a High-End Android OS Smartphone for T-Mobile

T-Mobile customers who have been hoping for a cutting-edge smartphone running Google's Android OS have received some good news: this carrier will soon release the Samsung Vibrant with a 1 GHz processor and a Super AMOLED touchscreen.

The Vibrant is going to be a version of the Samsung Galaxy S, so it will have a tablet shape with a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen. AMOLED displays provide more vibrant colors than standard LCDs, and are thinner and use less power. 

This smartphone is going to run Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Samsung Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor.

As it will run Google's operating system, the Vibrant will come with a suite of communication, entertainment, and productivity applications. Many of these will tie into Google services like YouTube and Gmail, but users will also be able to get their business mail through Microsoft Exchange.

This model will come with a 2 GB external memory card, and users will have the option of switching this out with higher capacity cards, up to 32 GB.

It will support T-Mobile's 3G (HSPA+) network, and the Vibrant is going to offer GPS functionality with access to turn-by-turn navigation as well as the Swype text input system.

It is also going to feature a 5-megapixel camera with digital zoom and auto-focus, and a video camera for high-definition (720p) videos and photos for playback on an HD television.

Pricing and Availability
T-Mobile is going to release the Samsung Vibrant on July 21, with pre-orders starting July 1.

This smartphone is going to sell for $200 with a qualifying two-year service contract.
