Android OS 2.2 Coming to Samsung Epic 4G, Vibrant, Fascinate, Captivate

All of the top U.S. wireless carriers are going to release versions of the Android OS-based Samsung Galaxy S, though under different names. No matter what it is called, Samsung promises that all the versions will get upgrades to Android OS 2.2.

These devices -- the Samsung Epic 4G from Sprint, the Samsung Fascinate from Verizon, the Samsung Captivate from AT&T, and the Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile -- are going to debut running Android OS 2.1, but an operating system upgrade for them all is in the offing.

Samsung didn't specify when Android OS 2.2 for these smartphones is going to be released.

New in Android OS 2.2
The latest version of Google's mobile operating system is required for devices to run Adobe Flash Player 10.1, which allows the web browser to fully make use of websites that use Flash for navigation, games, and showing video.

The Samsung Galaxy S models are going to ship with the other major enhancement in Android OS 2.2: portable hotspot software.

This new version also contains a number of other small enhancements, but none of the improvements significantly change the platform.
