A version of the LogMeIn Ignition remote access application is now available for smartphones running Google's Android OS. This allows users to control their work or home PC from almost anywhere in the world.
This software goes well beyond simply letting users access files on a remote computer. With LogMeIn, the mobile device's screen and keyboard becomes the PC's screen and keyboard.
This lets users control a distant desktop computer as if they were sitting in front of it. It enables them to interact with any program that's on their office computer or access a file that on their home desktop.
There are limitations, of course. Sound is not available in the smartphone version, and while the screen is updated relatively quickly, not quickly enough to allow users to watch video.
Pricing and Availability
LogMeIn Ignition for Android is available now in the on-device Android Market. It sells for $29.99.
In addition to the smartphone app, this service requires software on the remote computer, which can be either running Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X.
There are already versions of LogMeIn for Microsoft Windows Mobile and Apple iPhone OS, including a version specially for the iPad.
