Apple has introduced iOS 4.01 for the iPhone. It has also released iOS 3.2.1 for the iPad. These small system software updates fix a number of bugs generally related to wireless issues.
iPhone and iPod touch
The most significant change in iOS 4.01 is the update to the way the iPhone calculates the way it displays signal bars, making this function more accurate.
At this point, it does not appear that this change fixes the iPhone 4's problem with losing signal strength when held in a certain way. Apple has scheduled press conference for late today to address this problem.
This update is not just for the iPhone 4 -- versions have also been released for the iPhone 3GS and 3G.
iPad
iOS 3.2.1 for the iPad fixes some problems with Wi-Fi performance. It also takes care of a number of other small bugs.
An upgrade to iOS 4 for Apple's tablet is scheduled to come in the fall.
Upgrade Now
To perform any of these system software upgrades, connect the smartphone, handheld, or tablet to a PC or Mac running Apple's iTunes desktop software.
