The Motorola Droid X debuted just yesterday, and this Android OS smartphone is already on backorder.
This shouldn't surprise industry watchers; pre-release interest for Verizon's new flagship smartphone was high, and supplies of a number high-end models like this one have been short this summer.
In addition, the new Droid X has a feature set not easily matched: a 4.3-inch touchscreen, 1 GHz processor, 16 GB of storage, and much more.
Verizon says that orders placed today on its website will ship in a week, on July 23.
Overview of the Motorola Droid X
This new smartphone has a tablet shape dominated by a 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) touchscreen.
The Droid X runs Google Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz processor, and an upgrade to Android OS 2.2 is is scheduled to be available later this summer.
Thanks to Google's operating system, it is bundled with a suite of communication and entertainment software, such as a powerful web browser, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, plus music and video players. Users also have access to the over 50,000 applications available in Android Market.
Naturally, the Droid X supports Verizon's 3G mobile broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) network, and also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.
This Motorola model is well supplied with other cutting-edge features, like an 8 megapixel camera/video recorder, 8 GB of internal storage, and an 8 GB microSD memory card.
The Motorola Droid X has been priced at $200, after a $100 rebate and with a two-year contract.
