Verizon Says Screen Problems with Motorola Droid X Are Very Rare

Since the Motorola Droid X hit the market last week, some early adopters have complained about problems with this smartphone's display.

Specifically, these users sreport that their screens are either seriously flickering or most if not all of the display is replaced with black and white bands. 

A statement released by Verizon today says:

"Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of Droid X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display. Motorola has resolved the issue and is continuing to ship the phones. Any consumer who experiences a flickering or banding display should contact a Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless."

Reports of these problems don't seem to be affecting sales of this smartphone, which is on backorder until early next month.

This new smartphone has a tablet shape dominated by a 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) touchscreen.

The Droid X runs Google Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz processor, and an upgrade to Android OS 2.2 is is scheduled to be available later this summer.

Thanks to Google's operating system, it is bundled with a suite of communication and entertainment software, such as a powerful web browser, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, plus music and video players. Users also have access to the over 50,000 applications available in Android Market.

Naturally, the Droid X supports Verizon's 3G mobile broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) network, and also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.

This Motorola model is well supplied with other cutting-edge features, like an 8 megapixel camera/video recorder, 8 GB of internal storage, and an 8 GB microSD memory card.

The Motorola Droid X has a price of $200, after a $100 rebate and with a two-year contract.
