Motorola Droid X Backordered from Verizon but Available Elsewhere

Demand for the new Motorola Droid X is so high that orders placed on Verizon's website today won't ship until next month, but an online retailer has this popular Android OS smartphone in stock.

Some Verizon retail stores have units in stock, but verizonwireless.com can't deliver the Droid X until August 3.

Online retail giant Amazon.com also has this model on backorder, but mobile phone specialist Wirefly claims to have a limited number of units in stock.

This retailer is also offering a special deal for new Verizon customers: $180 with two-year contract, instead of the usual $200 with contract.

This recently-released smartphone has a tablet shape dominated by a 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) touchscreen.

The Droid X runs Google Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz processor, and an upgrade to Android OS 2.2 is is scheduled to be available later this summer.

Thanks to Google's operating system, it is bundled with a suite of communication and entertainment software, such as a powerful web browser, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, plus music and video players. Users also have access to the over 50,000 applications available in Android Market.

Naturally, the Droid X supports Verizon's 3G mobile broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) network, and also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.

This Motorola model is well supplied with other cutting-edge features, like an 8 megapixel camera/video recorder,8 GB of internal storage, and an 8 GB microSD memory card.
