BlackBerry Bold 9800 and BlackBerry OS 6.0 Could Debut Next Week

AT&T and BlackBerry-maker RIM have invited reporters to an event next Tuesday. The most likely purpose of this is to unveil the BlackBerry Bold 9800, the first RIM model with a sliding keyboard. This upcoming smartphone is also expected to be the first with BlackBerry OS 6.0.

Although a formal announcement has yet to take place, details on the Bold 9800 have been leaking out for months. Numerous images have shown that it will have a portrait-oriented sliding keyboard, a touchscreen, and a trackpad.

Users will also have the option to enter text with the physical keyboard or an on-screen one.

Aside from unconfirmed reports of a 5 megapixel camera, most other specifications of this device still remain unknown.

BlackBerry OS 6.0 on Board
This model is expected to debut with BlackBerry OS 6.0, a new version of RIM's operating system that's scheduled to debut this summer.

It will be noticeably enhanced with a redesigned home screen and a more advanced web browser, among other changes.

Availability?
One of the pictures of the BlackBerry Bold 9800 that leaked out showed this model is headed for AT&T, but it could also be offered by other carriers as well.

More information on this model will probably be available on Tuesday, August 3, at RIM's and AT&T's event.
