Video of Nokia's and Intel's MeeGo OS Leaks Out

Nokia and Intel are hard at work on the MeeGo OS, a new operating system that Nokia is going to use on its upcoming high-end smartphones. A major feature that is still in development is the user interface. A video of this UI has leaked out, however.

One of MeeGo's predecessors is Nokia's Meamo OS, so it's no surprise that the homescreen for MeeGo is apparently going to be dominated by widgets.  

Across the bottom of this screen -- and apparently virtually all screens -- will be  row of icons for accessing frequently used applications and features:

• Calls
• Contacts
• Apps list
• Chat
• Music

This leaked video emphasizes social networking, demonstrating MeeGo's tie-ins to Facebook and Nokia's own services.

The video also shows that this upcoming operating system is going connected to Ovi, Nokia's store for purchasing software and other content.

More About MeeGo
Earlier this year, Nokia and Intel announced that they are combining their Linux-based operating systems. Nokia's Maemo is currently available on the N900, while and Intel's Moblin was created for netbooks and tablets.

The resulting operating system, dubbed MeeGo,  will run on a range of mobile computers.

The first smartphones based on this new OS aren't expected until the end of the year.
