Scandal Brings Down HP CEO Mark Hurd

The CEO of HP has resigned in the wake of revelations that he'd been accused of sexual harassment and was guilty of financial improprieties.

Mark Hurd is credited with turning HP around in the wake of Carly Fiorina's tenure.

However, he left the company abruptly yesterday after it was revealed that a woman who had done marketing work for HP had accused him of sexual harassment.

HP says Hurd filed false expense reports in an attempt to cover up his relationship and funnel extra money to the woman, whose identity has not been revealed.

The company says that its former CEO did not violate its sexual harassment policy, but he did break the rules of HP's Standards of Business Conduct.

The unnamed woman has hired a high-profile sexual harassment lawyer, and may file a lawsuit against HP, Hurd, or both.

Looking Forward
Cathie Lesjak, HP's Chief Financial Officer, has taken over as interim CEO, and the company is looking for a permanent replacement.

HP makes a wide range of computers and accessories, and recently acquired Palm, Inc. It's expected to release smartphones and tablets running the webOS in the coming months.
