AT&T Commits to Android-based Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be released by AT&T next week, making it the fourth Android OS smartphone offered by this company, and its second high-end device based on Google's operating system.

This smartphone offers a number of cutting-edge features: a 4-inch, WVGA+ (480 x 854 pixel) capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, and a 8.1 megapixel camera.

However, it will lag behind in one area: when AT&T releases the Xperia X10, this device will be running Android OS 1.6, while the latest version of this operating system is OS 2.2. Still, Sony Ericsson has promised to release OS 2.1 for it this quarter.

To set it apart from the competition, Sony Ericsson has built some special apps for its new Xperia models, including one that can bring together messages from a variety of sources, including Facebook, Twitter, photos, emails and texts.

Additional Features
The wireless capabilities of the X10 include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a GPS receiver.

Its 8.1-megapixel auto-focus camera has a flash and video support. It offers face and smile detection, as well as image stabilization.

Pricing and Availability
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is already available in Europe, but AT&T will be the first U.S. carrier to offer it.

AT&T is going to introduce its version of this smartphone on Sunday, August 15. It will sell for $150 with a two year contract.
