iPhone Security Hole Closed by iOS 4.0.2

Apple has released iOS 4.0.2, a new version of the operating system used by the iPhone and iPod touch. This fixes a security flaw that puts these devices at risk of being hacked.

The hole in the security is related to the way the browser handles PDF files, and can be used to give hackers root access to the operating system, allowing them to do almost anything. 

But it also has a flipside: this same security hole is used by the website www.jailbreakme.com to easily jailbreak devices running iOS 4. Many iPhone and iPod touch owners have done this, as it allows them to run software that hasn't been authorized by Apple.

Get iOS 4.0.2
To install the latest version of Apple's operating system, connect the smartphone or handheld computer to the Mac or PC running iTunes that the device normally synchronizes with.

Installing this on a jailbroken device will remove the jailbreak.

iOS 4.1 Still on the Way
Apple is also working on iOS 4.1, a much larger update that has been in development for some time.

This is expected to be released in the coming weeks, though exactly when is not known.
