The first report that a PlayStation Phone is in development surfaced earlier this year, and now some additional details of it have leaked out of Sony Ericsson. This device will supposedly run the Android OS and have much in common with the Sony PSP Go.
Like many smartphones it will be a slider, but with a set of game controls instead of a keyboard. It will apparently look somewhat similar to the PSP Go (shown at left) but not exactly.
It will not be able to run titles created for the Playstation Portable, but developers will have to port their games to the Android OS.
High-end games such as God of War are allegedly on the docket. These apps might also be available for other Android OS models that meet certain hardware requirements.
More Hardware Details
This device will reportedly have a touchscreen between 4.1 and 3.7 inches with at least an 800 x 600 (WVGA) resolution.
It will run Google Android OS 3.0 (Gingerbread) on a 1 GHz processor, according to the details that leaked out of Sony Ericsson.
A 5 megapixel camera is supposedly on the specifications list, but the remaining features are still unknown.
Just a Few Months Away?
The PlayStation Phone could be released as early as October, according to this unconfirmed report.
So far, it's not known which wireless carriers are going to offer this device.
