Verizon Releases System Software Update for the Motorola Droid 2

Those with a new Motorola Droid 2 can now download and install a small update for the system software. This brings a few improvements, but doesn't fix the connection problems that many users of this Android OS smartphone have complained about.

According to Verizon's changelog, version 2.2.2:

• Enables text and picture message scrolling
• Streamlined set up of Visual Voice Mail
• Improved contact synchronization with categories on a Microsoft Exchange Server
• Fixed a bug related to showing contact pictures on the Recent Call Log

Wireless Problems Remain
The Droid 2 suffers from slow wireless connections. As Jen Edwards said in her preliminary review of this recently-released model, "Web pages render very slowly, and the experience is rather painful when compared to the Droid 2's slightly older cousin, the Droid Incredible."

The 2.2.2 update does not fix this problem.

Get the Update
To install this update, users of of this smartphone should go to Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates > Download on the device, and then following the on-screen prompts.

Overview of the Motorola Droid 2
Verizon's latest Android OS smartphone is a slider with a 3.7-inch WVGA display and a landscape-oriented keyboard.

Because it has Android OS 2.2, this smartphone has a very capable web browser, email software, music and video player, and the the web browser supports Adobe Flash.

The Droid 2 can connect to Verizon's 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) network, and it includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It can also act as a mobile hotspot.

It has a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, 8 GB of on-board storage as well as an 8 GB microSD/SDHC memory card.

The Motorola Droid 2 is selling for $200 with a new or renewed two-year service contract.
