Apple has invited reporters to an event in San Francisco next week. Although the company gave no specifics on what's going to be announced, the invitation makes it clear that music is going to be focus. Many are expecting this to be the release of the fourth-generation iPod touch.
The tip that something music-related is in the offing comes from the graphic used in the invite: a guitar with the Apple logo. Everything else is rumor and speculation.
This event is going to kick off at 1 pm Eastern time on Wednesday, September 1.
What the Rumors Say
Apple's fourth-generation iPhone was a significant change from its predecessor, with a much higher resolution screen, faster processor, dual cameras, and a new look. Many are expecting Apple's next iPod touch to include these new features as well.
If this is true, then it will have the iPhone 4's 3.5-inch, 640 x 960 "Retina" touchscreen.
This handheld computer, like its smartphone equivalent, will also reportedly allow users to make video calls with an app called FaceTime and a front-facing camera.
The next iPod touch will certainly run Apple iOS 4.0, but it's not known yet if it will use the a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor that's in Apple's latest smartphone.
Other details, like storage capacity, are also a mystery. There is, as yet, no word yet on pricing.
